Heidi has changed my life…. And I’m not being hyperbolic

My very favourite medical comedian, Dr. Glaucomflecken, has a character called Jonathan.  A medical scribe, he is the loyal, silent, capable assistant who makes life so much easier for those senior clinicians who are bereft of resident doctors or medical students to do their grunt work.

I used to be envious but not anymore.

Because now, I have Heidi… my very own AI-powered medical assistant.  Built by clinicians, for clinicians, every aspect of her is beautifully designed for my needs. She is safe (data security is taken very seriously by the company), adaptable, intuitive and very affordable. There are other products out there, but in my opinion, they fall short (too expensive, not secure, clunky or overly complex).

Pre-Heidi, I was torn between writing notes during the consult and decreasing the quality of the connection with the patient in front of me, and waiting until the end of the session to write most of my notes (which was time-consuming and risked forgetting important details). I no longer have to tussle. I can be truly present for my patients, then copy and paste well-structured notes into the medical record after a quick edit.  The quality of my notes has improved significantly, my administrative time has more than halved, my patients are very happy, and most importantly, I have a renewed love for my clinical work.

Heidi is not just a productivity tool, she is a burn-out prevention strategy.

When I read or hear people saying a program, diet, app, book or tool has changed their life like nothing else has, I usually roll my eyes. So I cringe a little when I hear myself evangelising about Heidi. The hand-on-heart truth is, however, that Heidi has revolutionised my clinical practice like nothing else has and I look forward to a long and happy partnership.
